Naran Kaghan Overview

The Kaghan Valley is in the Mansehra District of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan. The valley extends 155 kilometers (96 mi) across northern Pakistan, rising from an elevation of 2,134 feet (650 m) to its highest point, the Babusar Pass, at 13,690 feet (4,170 m). Its mountains, dales, lakes, waterfalls, streams, and glaciers are in an unspoiled paradise. That is why it can be such a deeply satisfying experience to spend a few days in Kaghan. Kaghan is at its best in the summer months (May to September). In May the temperature is maximum 10oF / 37C and the minimum 3oF / -1C.

Kaghan is a beautiful place to visit. Its valleys and Lakes make it like a wonderland of Pakistan. Normally it is known together with Naran Valley that is very next to it. Both valleys are called Kaghan Naran as one place. Saif ul Malook Lake is one the greatest attraction that is like a fairy place. It also has an account in history. There is a complete book of poetry written by Mian Mohamamd Bakhsh on it.

Geography
Kaghan Valley is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the north of Pakistan, bordering the territories of Gilgit-Baltistan to the north and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to the southeast. The 155-kilometer valley is enveloped by the Lower Himalaya range, resulting in an alpine climate and the prevalence of pine forests and alpine meadows. Alongside the flow of the Kunhar River, the valley features glaciers, crystal-like clear lakes, waterfalls, and frosty mountain streams. Kaghan is famous for its scenic beauty and landscapes, resulting in its popularity as a summer resort.

Naran (Town) is a medium-sized town in upper Kaghan Valley in Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is located 119 kilometers (74 mi) from Mansehra city at the altitude of 2,409 meters (7,904 ft). It is located about 65 kilometers (40 mi) away from Babusar Top. It is a popular tourist attraction locally as well as internationally.

Naran Kaghan is famous as a tourist destination, owing to its pleasant weather in peak season every year thousands of tourists rush to explore the valley. It is also the gateway to Gilgit Hunza in Summers by Babusar Pass. Naran Bazaar is very crowded in summers with hotels and restaurants offering their services. In 2020, the government expects that 5 million tourists will explore the valley.

Kaghan Valley is always accessible during the summer season (May to November) and closed to visitors during winter. This is because the glaciers block the roads leading to Kaghan Valley during winter, causing the roads to close. These glaciers would melt from February to April. From June to the end of October, the roads and Babusar Pass remain open. In May, the temperature can reach up to 11 °C (52 °F) and stoop as low as 3 °C (37 °F).

Fishing Trout and Mahasheer are stocked in the pure silvery waters between Kaghan and Naran. The Kunhar river’s trout is considered best in the South Asia. Fishing licenses are issued by the Fisheries Department at Naran.

Walk to Lake Most visitors to Naran pay a visit to Saiful Muluk Lake (10,500 feet) 6 miles east of town. If the road is open you can arrange transportation by jeep. If the road is closed, it is an easy, gradual three-hour walk, and the lake is a lovely spot for a picnic. you can also take some guide with you. you can ask it from hotel, or any shops but make a good deal. Espacially if you plan to walk in may/june, due to big ice-glaciers you may require a horse to put all your luggage on it.

Drive to Top If you are driving directly up-valley from Naran to Babusar “Top” the loveliest spots to camp on this trail is at “Lulusar Lake”. Located just before the final grade to Babusar Top and sorrounded by tall peaks, Lulusar is just one many high elevation lakes that sit along the crest of the ridge.
